Unfortunately I have been busy and successful with my new career in real estate but was unsuccessful in continuing my Whole30 lifestyle. I re-started a few times but it just didn’t seem to “work” again for me.<br />
<br />
So, what should I do? I decided to go back to my go-to of Trim Healthy Mama!<br />
I started a no-cheat goal and have been on plan 100% for about 5 days now and I’m feeling great. Despite having two under the weather kids I’ve been on plan without fail!<br />
My other goal is to be more consistent with exercise. I’m pretty disappointed in myself because in June I ran the farthest distance I’ve ever ran before in my first race - I completed the Newport 10 Miler in just over 2 hours! I had wanted to continue running regularly but didn’t. So I’m trying to get in walks and runs as much as possible but with winter here now it’s going to be mostly treadmill workouts.<br />
<br />
Here’s a few items I’ve enjoyed this past week:<br />
<br />
Egg Roll in a Bowl<br />
Chili<br />
Quick and easy Peanut Butter Cookies<br />
Skinny Chocolate<br />
Good Girl Moon Shine<br />
Oolong Tea<br />
The Shrinker<br />
Cream Soda Good Girl Moonshine<br />
<br />
And that’s just what I can remember!<br />
<br />
Hope all is well with you all and will check in again soon with an update!<br />

<br />
I am currently doing my second round of Whole30. I had amazing success last Fall - it ended up being a Whole90/paleo adventure. I fell off the wagon shortly after Thanksgiving which I'm bummed about. However, I'm back on track and feeling great as I'm on day 8 again.<br />
<br />
Other changes - I've made a career change. I'm now a licensed Real Estate Agent here in Connecticut and super excited about it!<br />
<br />
We also finished our kitchen renovation which was 7 years in the making - I'm in LOVE. We couldn't be happier. It makes cooking and being healthy and organized so much more fun and easier!<br />
<br />
This update was super short and quick and packed with a lot of change but I hope to update you again soon expanding on those ch-ch-changes!<br />

I cannot believe how many days have passed and how good I feel on Whole30.<div><br></div><div>I'm probably down quite a few inches, I'm way less bloated and I bet I have lost a few pounds! I cannot wait for my measurements on day 30 - or maybe will do it on day 31!</div><div><br></div><div>I plan to continue this way of eating and eliminating dairy, gluten and alcohol for maybe another few weeks. I truly feel really great! </div><div><br></div><div>I will check in again soon with my updated totals for this Whole30!</div><div>~Carly</div>Carlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621640894734657973noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133829077654825134.post-16897585965875548672016-08-30T09:59:00.001-04:002016-08-30T13:52:36.538-04:00Summer Hiatus and Whole30Yes. I took another hiatus from blog-world. But, I'm back after a long summer. It was great - but long!<div><br></div><div>As I type I'm in Starbucks (kid free) drinking my black coffee (yup - get to that in a minute) re-reading<i> It Starts With Food</i> (wait, no <i>Trim Healthy Mama</i>??) and had a lightbulb moment. An A-Ha! </div><div><br></div><div>Okay, maybe I need to rewind. Last year and even before spring of this year I was down on the scale - closer to my goal weight. In the late spring and over this summer my weight crept up again. Like, not just a normal fluctuation. Like ten - yes - 10 pounds. Needless to say last week, I was like "Ok Carly. Kids will be back in school. Summer is over. Health game will be back ON." So what happened exactly? Well, alcoholic beverages, eating less than every 3 hours and snacking on things I don't normally eat, laziness - well, you get the picture. I had been exercising consistently but then kind of fell off the wagon with it again. </div><div><br></div><div>But you have to do that - check in with your self to keep it real, right? I was straying from my <i>Trim Healthy Mama</i> lifestyle a bit and while I wasn't necessarily eating terrible foods - I was indeed not clearly staying on track from the path I wanted to be on. </div><div><br></div><div>Ok, well since I'm being honest I did have a few burgers..with buns. And french fries. On more than one occasion 😁 </div><div><br></div><div>So, again <span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><b>before</b> summer I was eating the well and exercising. Because of that I truly felt the affects of it and was waking on my own, had lots of energy all day and slept well. However, as the summer went on and I enjoyed some foods and extra drinks, getting up in the mornings became harder and I felt tired and groggy and I was a little crabby, too.</span></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">About a week and half ago, a woman who I admire and respect that I found on Instagram and am in a few Facebook groups with started talking about Whole30. I had read the book awhile back with some others - Wheat Belly, etc. It really does align well with the THM Fuel Cycle which I love! The only part of Whole30 that would be tough is the stevia use I have been enjoying the last 3 years or so. For the last week or so I am now using no stevia or cream in my coffee - which for me is cray-zay!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">So now that I've filled you in - Back to sitting here at Starbucks...</span></div></div><div><br></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">After reading a few pages into this book again - I am having these "duh"</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">and "A-HA!" moments. My summer shenanigans were proof that it was COMPLETELY the food I began to eat again and for the past week and few days is just re-affirming how <b>good</b> I'm feeling. I just realized after sleeping in, the past two days I am able to wake again on my own after cutting out the bad stuff again. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">So, I'm extremely happy to be back on track, exercising again (ran yesterday!) and being in tune with my body. Eating whole foods and enjoying it again. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I took my measurements and weight at the start and am taking pictures - EEEEEEEEEEK!! </span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;"><br></span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">I know you're not supposed to but I did peek at the scale and it's moving in the right direction. Looking forward to the next few weeks!</span></div><div><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">~Carly</span></div>Carlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621640894734657973noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133829077654825134.post-42408070618312669882016-06-27T10:53:00.000-04:002016-06-27T10:53:22.028-04:00Summer, summer, summer time! Updates and recipe!Happy Monday! The weather is lovely here in Connecticut and it's officially Summer!<br />
<br />
When it's warmer, I naturally tend to lighten up my diet - I started with some spring cleaning of all the things, including my diet and body. I had been running about 3 times a week pretty consistently and re-started Kayla Istines BBG program. For the life of me I just couldn't stick to it. I'm continuing to eat THM style but have strayed and crossed over but am still consistent with my weight.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A few months ago now, I went to lunch with my cousin at a restaurant called Brio Tuscan Grille. I had a quinoa chicken dish that was delicious (Note: it was not entirely on my Trim Healthy Mama diet since I don't know the exact nutritional content). Of course, in true Carly fashion I decided I needed to somehow re-create this deliciousness at home! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So I opened the pantry and the fridge and used what I had and pretty much came up with something new. And today, made it again because it's SO delicious, simple and healthy!!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Recipe: Bowl of Goodness - THM E</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i><b>Ingredients:</b></i></div>
<div>
Spinach, arugula, or greens of choice (I highly recommend the arugula! I was out but plan to use next time)</div>
<div>
Chopped veggies: cucumber, tomato, red onion, peppers - your choice! You could add a small amount of carrots since this is for an E setting </div>
<div>
1/2 cup cooked quinoa</div>
<div>
1/4 garbanzo beans (chick peas)<br />
Grilled chicken breast</div>
<div>
Juice of one lemon</div>
<div>
1 TBSP feta cheese (more if lower fat)</div>
<div>
1 small drizzle of olive oil </div>
<div>
Salt & pepper to taste - may also add other spices if desired like garlic or onion powder<br />
<br />
<b><i>Directions:</i></b><br />
1. Grill chicken and cook quinoa per the package directions and let cool.<br />
2. Drain garbanzo beans and measure out portion for one salad (or use full can for two servings)<br />
3. Wash and prepare greens and veggies. Chop and set aside.<br />
4. Mix greens, chopped veggies, beans, feta and chicken in large bowl.<br />
5. Juice the lemon, add the olive oil and spices and whisk in separate bowl.<br />
6. Pour liquid mixture over salad, combine and enjoy!<br />
<br /></div>
<div>

I could eat this pretty much all day, any day! It's light, refreshing and filling.<br />
It's also super easy to make and quick for me to take along with us to the pool we go to every day.<br />
Salads are my main lunch most days.<br />
<br />
Let me know if you decide to make this!<br />

Good afternoon on this "extra" Leap Year Day!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
To take advantage of it, I decided today I am all about getting back on track with my healthy living goals, life and work. I just want to get back to what's important and that includes being more mindful & becoming more of a minimalist. I'm finding when you have less clutter in your mind, home and body it's amazing what that "space" can do for you. I have de-cluttered quite a bit around our home but still need to do more. </div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both;">
After a longer walk/run this morning I went grocery shopping so I can menu plan. I'm still following the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle and eating my <a href="http://www.carlykirsch.juiceplus.com/" target="_blank">Juice Plus</a> everyday. My focus is on whole and minimally processed foods. I did gain a few pounds back the last few weeks and I want to lose them again ASAP. I want to continue to avoid gluten and dairy and have been trying to do so since I did The D14 back in December. I plan to do another round very soon - stay tuned :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzALinWu9HpafHN0pJajzfs4GW7iyoBghGsSC412fgxV8PL9NJJubqUgeGhiy1Tk5CDiKnWwgmYDUP6tMd8GYohOQJCoSAypjRg_hz5QkIH8622vky3HGruUduHNQWCemOHajwB8r99Dea/s640/blogger-image--912261246.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: right;"><img alt="" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhzALinWu9HpafHN0pJajzfs4GW7iyoBghGsSC412fgxV8PL9NJJubqUgeGhiy1Tk5CDiKnWwgmYDUP6tMd8GYohOQJCoSAypjRg_hz5QkIH8622vky3HGruUduHNQWCemOHajwB8r99Dea/s320/blogger-image--912261246.jpg" title="CarlY" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Something else I added into our daily life last fall was essential oils. I still use them essential every day and am loving them with every use! I just ordered more of my favorite from Plant Therapy called Germ Destroyer from their KidSafe line. Between our Juice Plus and the essential oils I really feel that's why we've been staying as healthy as possible over the winter. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Speaking of winter, I'm ready for it to come to a close and am very much looking forward to spring cleaning!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Enjoy the day!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Yes, yes - I took another hiatus but I'm back and I promise you won't be disappointed with this recipe I've returned with! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But first a quick update with where I'm at. I'm bouncing a bit weight-wise but still feeling really good. I'm taking my <a href="http://carlykirsch.juiceplus.com/content/JuicePlus/en.html" target="_blank">Juice Plus</a> every day and using my Complete shakes sparingly as I'm going to do the D14 in a few weeks again! I'm staying as much gluten and dairy free as I can and I have to say it's keeping me feeling deflated most of the time which is great!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ok enough about that. On to this new salad I'm obsessed with. Not sure I've mentioned this before but I grew up in Farmington, Connecticut. There's a bakery in the corner as you come into our town and it was called Ann Howard's. It's now called <a href="http://www.trufflesbakery.com/" target="_blank">Truffles</a> and they also have a location in Avon, CT which is where I first had the Farmington Valley Salad with my BFF, Dana.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's <em><strong>delicious</strong></em>! And of course a salad made by anyone else but you always tastes better - am I right? Yes - it's just true. Since I live close to the area but not quite close enough to get this salad as often as I crave it I decided to experiment and create my own. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Well, clearly certain ingredients aren't hard to re-create...ya know like lettuce. Heh. Sorry - I'm silly. However it's <em>always</em> the dressing that is the hardest to re-create. But thanks to the wonderful world of people on Pinterest I found a really great recipe for the balsamic dressing that I love!! Yay!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So here is the <a href="http://cupcakesandkalechips.com/creamy-balsamic-greek-yogurt-vinaigrette-salad-dressing/" target="_blank">recipe for the dressing</a> from Brianne at Cupcakes and Kale Chips.<br />
</div>
<div>
I'm just going to tell you now to double the ingredients because you're going to be sad when it runs out. Trust me. Speaking from experience here :(<br />
<br />
I used 0% plain greek yogurt and only had regular yellow mustard. I added garlic powder to mine as well. I whipped mine up all in the food processor.<br />
<br />
For the ingredients for the salad, you'll need:<br />
<br />
1. Any kind of lettuce or greens you like. Here I used romaine and baby spinach. The salad at Truffle's comes with mixed greens so next time I will make sure I use those :)<br />
2. Grilled chicken<br />
3. A handful of red grapes sliced in half<br />
4. A pinch of dried cranberries<br />
5. A tablespoon or two of feta cheese or any other type of hard cheese (remember for THM it's an E setting so have to watch the fat grams!)<br />
6. 1/4 to a half of a granny smith apple chopped <br />
7. The delicious, glorious, creamy balsamic dressing recipe<br />
<strong>Note:</strong> The original salad comes with sliced almonds but I omitted them because I had none and I kept the fat content down for the Trim Healthy Mama E meal.<br />
</div>

This salad is colorful, crunchy and just so tasty. I will definitely be making this quite often.<br />
<br />
For THM it's an E with the added fruit and the lower fat dressing. Be mindful of the honey in the dressing, too. I tolerate it well but you can add any sweetener of your choice if you do not wish to use honey.<br />
<br />
There you have it - let me know if you make it and what you think!<br />

Happy Tuesday night!<div><br></div><div>A few years ago, a neighbor made the most amazing creation she called "Christmas Crack" which was essentially butter, sugar, saltines and chocolate. What's the big deal with those ingredients. Don't be fooled - when combined it is the most delicious thing I have ever tasted. For real. It's sweet, salty and crunchy. </div><div><br></div><div>Fast forward to now and being on THM I haven't had it in a very long time. In fact, Ifortunately hadn't even thought about it until it started popping up in my newsfeed on Facebook and on Pinterest. Ugh. </div><div><br></div><div>Then a few weeks back in the Trim Healthy Mama groups page the lovely Briana Thomas posted her own recipe. So immediately I pinned it and looked at it but honestly it was a little too involved for me and I moved on with my craving.</div><div><br></div><div>So tonight while grabbing some items out of the pantry I noticed a package of wasa crackers and I decided to experiment.</div><div><br></div><div>I grabbed some foil, the wasa crackers, my THM super sweet blend, a stick of butter and vanilla and went to work.</div><div><br></div><div>I quickly searched for a recipe and found this one from Smitten Kitchen - http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2009/04/chocolate-caramel-crackers/</div><div><br></div><div>So I followed the directions loosely.</div><div><br></div><div>I didn't make a full recipe so I halved it. I spread about 9 crackers on the foil and preheated the oven to 350. I added the stick of butter to a saucepan and added about 1/3 cup super sweet blend and stirred. However, it wasn't thickening or coming to a boil. Seeing as how the real "Christmas Crack" calls for brown sugar, I didn't have any or any THM brown sugar. So I cheated a bit and added two small teaspoons of regular real sugar. As soon as I did the mixture came to a rolling boil and simmered for a few minutes. Then, I added the vanilla and poured over the crackers and spread with a spoon and popped the tray in the oven. After about 8 minutes it was ready with the edges turning brown and I sprinkled dark chocolate chips on top. I use the Enjoy Life brand. However, I didn't have enough so I did use some Nestle tollhouse chocolate chips I had on hand to fill in some gaps. These are clearly not on THM (hence the name of the post) but I figure it's better to have a smidge of real sugar than to indulge in completely off plan foods.</div><div><br></div><div>After the chips sat on top and melted I spread them around with a spatula. I sprinkled the top with some coarse sea salt and popped it in the fridge to cool.</div><div><br></div><div>Then I proceeded to open and close the fridge numerous times waiting to be able to taste it!! </div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKj_fZ4lpr_Kz7ZwR8znBwhzls-TS-fzl5dLLOIUBNCERsZaJf8mpGuAEZvcDzlnmRaFqmfAlvWy5UKE0lfqfZcMi4QG40d8T1d7J6vtB6c9syPiGihylh3wORU-CFWN_ETKQLTxB65G-M/s640/blogger-image--1922510751.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKj_fZ4lpr_Kz7ZwR8znBwhzls-TS-fzl5dLLOIUBNCERsZaJf8mpGuAEZvcDzlnmRaFqmfAlvWy5UKE0lfqfZcMi4QG40d8T1d7J6vtB6c9syPiGihylh3wORU-CFWN_ETKQLTxB65G-M/s640/blogger-image--1922510751.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Finally, after an eternity - or about 15 minutes - it cooled enough for me to taste to make sure it was going to be good enough to satisfy my craving.</div><div><br></div><div>Oh, you guys. It was AMAZING!!</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEYOIGDriOJRHoemjD-qv-GBKgy_NrfLzcRUKyguopdxioH65HtCRncf9hPpyMYaB1HVfofk6B3szMNBNIPq4l009cCFZk6UEa89JX64m-cdiRcF8VbXiqzwYV_zVr3-SS_8Xsrxa1j_gS/s640/blogger-image-492129338.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEYOIGDriOJRHoemjD-qv-GBKgy_NrfLzcRUKyguopdxioH65HtCRncf9hPpyMYaB1HVfofk6B3szMNBNIPq4l009cCFZk6UEa89JX64m-cdiRcF8VbXiqzwYV_zVr3-SS_8Xsrxa1j_gS/s640/blogger-image-492129338.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>I popped it back in the fridge to cool a bit more and then broke it into pieces. </div><div><br></div><div>And of course I continued to taste test. Even my son wanted a piece. I'm not going to lie - I hesitated to share! Haha but like a good mom I let him have a piece (a small one). He loved it!</div><div><br></div><div>This recipe is definetly a keeper. And while I did use some off plan ingredients, this hit the spot and I don't feel bad at al for having this along with my S meals!</div><div>~Carly</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>Carlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621640894734657973noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133829077654825134.post-83166861659375362015-12-21T16:39:00.003-05:002015-12-21T16:39:41.879-05:00The D14 RecapYikes! I completely forgot to post my recap from the results of The D14 program!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Overall I was down about 5 pounds and almost 8 inches! My clothes are looser and fitting well, I'm still very much not bloated and truly feeling great! <br />
<br />
I'm back to eating Trim Healthy Mama style - not that I really stopped - but just continuing to eat well. I have been careful to re-introduced too many of the things I cut out. However, I have had some small amounts of cheese here and there but am going to try to avoid gluten as much as possible.<br />
<br />
Since I was finished with my nutritional rebalancing I feel truly amazing and I encourage anyone who is looking to get healthier, maybe lose a few pounds or just detox a little bit if you're feeling sluggish, etc.<br />

I measured this morning and lost another inch or so for a total of 7 3/4 inches lost in 14 days! I'm still less bloated and feeling good. I can't believe it was so easy to cut out some things from my diet for these past two weeks and I'm so much better for it!<div><br></div><div>I really can't say enough good things about this detox. Whole food nutrition is so important and I really am going to keep what I learned about myself going forward. </div><div><br></div><div>I started my dieting journey in 2010 by counting calories. While it worked initially it can be quite a pain long term - but when you find food freedom like I have with Trim Healthy Mama you can lose the numbers and measuring obsession.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRPKukVM8g57Z-xtaP5vpDrGn9_hVYzpITmjtahMR3S5FhnKIM0uTW28ApQgIZIYc1x50o4iGB1a73LuTCbB2dpb7lNSDdqSr6xZGvqtPP-Di2zLzLghnvUOkVU8oMEmp4i6mc0esGJnW9/s640/blogger-image-728312861.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRPKukVM8g57Z-xtaP5vpDrGn9_hVYzpITmjtahMR3S5FhnKIM0uTW28ApQgIZIYc1x50o4iGB1a73LuTCbB2dpb7lNSDdqSr6xZGvqtPP-Di2zLzLghnvUOkVU8oMEmp4i6mc0esGJnW9/s640/blogger-image-728312861.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>~Carly</div>Carlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621640894734657973noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133829077654825134.post-6058969994790976002015-12-14T17:58:00.001-05:002015-12-14T17:58:16.477-05:00The D14 Day 12It's crazy that I only have two days left on my first round of The D14 and then go into Maintenance! I plan to continue using the shakes and eating my THM way.<div>Cutting out some things from my diet hasn't been as hard as I thought - some moments yes but my body is thanking me for it. I'm much less bloated. I am bouncing a bit on the scale but still feeling so great! </div><div><br></div><div>I went for a walk yesterday with my dog - a little over 2 miles. Then today I took her for a walk again but it started to rain so I brought her home and went to the gym and walked hills on the treadmill for about 35 minutes. It felt great to exercise today.</div><div><br></div><div>So, just a quick update. I'm going to make the most of these last two days!</div><div>~Carly</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>Carlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621640894734657973noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133829077654825134.post-35518505536071571062015-12-13T07:41:00.001-05:002015-12-13T11:08:43.321-05:00Two Year Trimaversary!Happy Sunday and Happy Two Years of Trim Healthy Mama to me!<div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_cZmR2x32jiU8rdxq4FAEGTbHbbYcfwurg66I3QN7q4BpbJrYyGMbls-LmyM8nl_NY3qFA1SY3K7xB-fhpbE-DZYcw74gNYzlmKgvweh19uPTxNSyh1N2ZpiEQbfZ6BO-bBzBsCaXSAnS/s640/blogger-image--1929876489.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_cZmR2x32jiU8rdxq4FAEGTbHbbYcfwurg66I3QN7q4BpbJrYyGMbls-LmyM8nl_NY3qFA1SY3K7xB-fhpbE-DZYcw74gNYzlmKgvweh19uPTxNSyh1N2ZpiEQbfZ6BO-bBzBsCaXSAnS/s640/blogger-image--1929876489.jpg"></a></div>Started at about 170 and really large for me personally (left). I had tried numerous diets - South Beach, Atkins, Eat To Live, meal replacement diets (found one product I do love now though!) and then right before finding THM I did the 21 Day Sugar Detox which was a great segue into the Trim Healthy Mama lifestyle.</div><div><br></div><div>The pic on the right was from the other night before going out to dinner with my husband. I'm currently doing a THM-friendly detox with some Juice Plus+ products and I'm about 153/154 pounds right now. I'm also down a few more inches in just the past few days and feeling very less bloated and trimmer.</div><div><br></div><div>So there it is. While I didn't lose a ton of weight, I lost inches and gained so much more happiness than I could have ever thought. </div><div>~Carly</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>Carlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621640894734657973noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133829077654825134.post-86434229020476431032015-12-12T07:45:00.001-05:002015-12-12T07:53:22.733-05:00The D14 Day 10Happy Saturday! <div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg13gLFX4JRXIjf0p4sSWOSWRPpNu5ESZgHGTLSDwkIhSz2vTlba_L_wf71IhMsBmdatkYMWFvwr4jYqxWhsUo_H95cmZ45-tEj8AyfuyVDvVl9gd0Mij6UHme-jTbrtEX6zFiJibTZaDlM/s640/blogger-image-1370672640.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg13gLFX4JRXIjf0p4sSWOSWRPpNu5ESZgHGTLSDwkIhSz2vTlba_L_wf71IhMsBmdatkYMWFvwr4jYqxWhsUo_H95cmZ45-tEj8AyfuyVDvVl9gd0Mij6UHme-jTbrtEX6zFiJibTZaDlM/s640/blogger-image-1370672640.jpg"></a></div><br></div><div>Ahh the weekend. We have a good balance of a busy Saturday and hopefully a productive and relaxing Sunday.</div><div><br></div><div>Today starts day 10 and still loving this truly easy detox. I can't believe I only have four days left! I did fluctuate up and down and a bit up by about a half pound for some reason over the past two days - lady cycles and water intake are likely to blame - but I'm still feeling slimmer and really great! </div><div><br></div><div>Thursday night I attended a party with a cookie swap and grab bag so I did have a baby glass of wine and a taste of a drink my friend brought but did not eat anything except a few olives! I was really proud of myself and was shocked I was not tempted to graze or eat any appetizers! Or a cookie!! </div><div><br></div><div>Last night we hosted my parents and in-laws for dinner to celebrate Hanukkah. I had a delicious gluten free pasta with an eggplant sauce for dinner and a side salad and made a yummy lasagna for the rest of the family. I did a small taste of the meat sauce while cooking and it was delicious. </div><div><br></div><div>About to make breakfast and I'm thinking I will eat some veggie eggs and save my shake for on the go for later as it gets busy!</div><div><br></div><div>Have a great weekend!</div><div>~Carly</div><div><br></div><div><br></div>Carlyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13621640894734657973noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-133829077654825134.post-53908819990425366822015-12-09T15:39:00.001-05:002015-12-09T16:28:37.666-05:00Healthy Tip/TrickHappy Wednesday!<div><br></div><div>I wanted to share a quick health tip/trick that I've always tried to do. Since life is busy (more so around the holidays) and errands run long or we find ourselves out and about for longer periods of time - stuck at a sports practice or in traffic. And it's always inevitable that hunger will strike. It does for me anyways! </div><div><br></div><div>So I always keep some things in my bag with me for just those instances. Like today for example I was running errands and got a late start and figured I would be home in time for lunch. </div><div><br></div><div>Wrong! I was shopping when hunger struck while at Kohls. And I mean starving. Of course, there's no real food there except the Godiva chocolate at the register. So it's a good thing I always keep that bag in my bag! <br />
It's been another GREAT day so far. My son ended up staying home today unexpectedly. He said he wasn't feeling well ten minutes before the bus came so better safe than sorry, right? <br />
<br />
Turns out he just wanted to stay home and play with toys. We had a chat about that. Why am I telling you this? Well, it's actually quite relevant to this D14 journey I'm so pleased to be on. <br />
<br />
The past two days I've felt much calmer in general but especially as a parent. I mentioned I was more clear and focused but I haven't "flown off the handle" or lost my "mommy sh!t" as much as I have been when my kids are on my last nerve, not listening or dilly-dallying before bed. And I'm convinced it has much to do with The D14 program. My blood sugars are balanced which means my insulin is regulated which is all intertwined with hormones and I'm just more stable. Crazy, right?<br />
<br />
I'm not a doctor or a nutritionist (although I'd love to be either or) but it's fairly general knowledge that if you aren't filling your body with sugars and carbs and other ingredients or chemicals then your body can function the way it is designed to <strong><em>BE</em></strong>. I'm truly feeling that from these last 6 days.<br />
<br />
And guess what? The scale is showing it, too. I love when that happens - seeing the evidence aside from only feeling it. Because guess what - kinda hard to show feelings over the Internet, huh?<br />
<br />
Yep. So I will show ya.<br />
<br />
Image below is as follows:<br />
<br />
Top Left is last Thursday (start day), middle is this past Saturday, top right is same weight for both Sunday & Monday and bottom left is this morning 12/8.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiICxPd0mNgN3R0ixNdIn7LBw3GX14RGNzPBW-3nypjY3xQX1jtYboIgEgEic42XcfxRG15ONFlEKQ0r2ldGG0x6QqUJxzAFamoNiiuFE439ApJOUh-mt4eK7hgZd2jDBPEN2-nnMDhpah9/s640/blogger-image-1842359915.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiICxPd0mNgN3R0ixNdIn7LBw3GX14RGNzPBW-3nypjY3xQX1jtYboIgEgEic42XcfxRG15ONFlEKQ0r2ldGG0x6QqUJxzAFamoNiiuFE439ApJOUh-mt4eK7hgZd2jDBPEN2-nnMDhpah9/s320/blogger-image-1842359915.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I'd like to apologize quickly for my winter feet and our ugly bathroom tile. Additionally, I have no idea why my left foot looks more "tan" than my right foot in each of the pictures. I'm guessing it has to do with the lighting as well as the way I'm holding my iPhone to take the pictures when I first wake up ;)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I'm also not departing from my Trim Healthy Mama plan which I still love and rely on. The Juice Plus+ products really are complementing this plan for me and providing me with extra whole food nutrition that is getting me closer and closer to my ultimate goal. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
My ultimate goal has always been to get to where I was before my first child - because it's not called child weight either!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
I'm about to have a Complete shake now as my day kind of went off track when I decided my son could stay home. Dinner is to be determined but will be in accordance with the D14 guidelines :)</div>
<br />
So, there you have it...I'm pretty shocked, hopeful, happy and motivated. If you're ready to join in on this please, please, please don't wait! If you've followed me or read any posts at all, you know the struggle is real and how many "diets" I've truly tried on this journey. <br />
<br />
Email me at <a href="mailto:carlykirsch@gmail.com">carlykirsch@gmail.com</a> - you'll thank yourself!!!<br />

I have to be honest - I really had NO intention of posting every day but I cannot help myself!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now on Day 5 and woke to the same number on the scale as yesterday which was a little surprising only because I have been seeing a drop every day since I started but that doesn't mean dissapointment! I'm still feeling awesome. It's funny because I always read people on a detox or cleanse feeling "clear" and I didn't really understand what that meant until now. My mind feels clear. I'm remembering more and feel more focused and honestly a little less crabby than normal. Coincidence? Not sure yet but I'm thinking its definetly a result of this. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, Day 5 has gone like this:</div>
<div>
Wake up and have water and some coffee and water</div>
<div>
Vanilla shake in blender with fruit and almond milk around 7:45 am</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Lunch was around 11:45 so I drank my detox drink and quickly scrambled some eggs and had some trail mix quickly before I had to run out again.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Snacked on some rotisserie chicken and water around 4:30 pm</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Then...dinner. My son requested pancakes for dinner and I couldn't disagree. Not only because it is his birthday but also because it sounded yummy. But I'm on a strict 14 days here - so what to do? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Make pancakes out of my Complete mix of course! It's a packet of vanilla, 1/2 cup of gluten free oat flour, one egg and two tsp of baking powder and about 1/4 cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifr-Umxt0L2sJUJT1OWRWrvYemNLped3WPVMjNDXED2sQX2-jd_x8YGsxZiKk4aNCD6rL7THi5fvxCcGcDEzFWV1rpInPzhgJPyTAAIU00-Etp8PlEKu_IU5NLbZuq8_Q5bHC-xUSAbK_q/s640/blogger-image--1669646092.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifr-Umxt0L2sJUJT1OWRWrvYemNLped3WPVMjNDXED2sQX2-jd_x8YGsxZiKk4aNCD6rL7THi5fvxCcGcDEzFWV1rpInPzhgJPyTAAIU00-Etp8PlEKu_IU5NLbZuq8_Q5bHC-xUSAbK_q/s400/blogger-image--1669646092.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Mix all ingredients together and voilà - pancakes!!! I added blueberries, too.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">

<br /></div>
<div>
Oh they were deeelish. It's about 8:40 pm and I'm still full.</div>
<div>

<div>
Enjoy the evening!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was a busy but good day! Woke up again to a decrease of pounds on the scale! I'm really happy!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Today was my son's birthday party so breakfast was a Vanilla Complete shake with some added fruit and ice with almond milk.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I had coffee again on the way to the party and then just water. I did not have any pizza or cake at the party! Whoop! Needless to say by the time I get home I was starving! I threw some Chocolate Complete in a shaker bottle with 10 ounces of almond milk and drank that while my son opened presents.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Since this weekend was busy I haven't done a grocery shop yet so we decided it was out to dinner we go. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My son chose Jakes Wayback Burgers so I ordered a side salad and a grilled chicken sandwich and only at the chicken. </div>
<div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It's day 2 of my detox/reboot and I'm feeling really great! <br />
<br />
Thankfully my sinus/headache thing has seemingly gone away - hopefully for good! I woke up to a lot less bloating and one pound lighter! That's after ONE day so I'm very optimistic for the next 13!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTuWqgeFT1qd5kCike-svJZMQEBSRfgUvVVOofiHqOHNlYxJIqgdFwGtOG6w0z7Fi1JZAj61uqvhpBLuSLLWFQhehB6hlyiMpsQ07sROTTpDmGi02oV4URGhHKlyY-0EgZhb2nIgt6Sf6p/s640/blogger-image-1053751947.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTuWqgeFT1qd5kCike-svJZMQEBSRfgUvVVOofiHqOHNlYxJIqgdFwGtOG6w0z7Fi1JZAj61uqvhpBLuSLLWFQhehB6hlyiMpsQ07sROTTpDmGi02oV4URGhHKlyY-0EgZhb2nIgt6Sf6p/s320/blogger-image-1053751947.jpg" width="240" /></a>So full disclosure as always - I'm up a few pounds in general from Thanksgiving and such but not a lot and definitely not currently at my lowest weight. I have been maintaining and bouncing with the same 3-4 pounds. That's where I'm expecting this D14 to help me bust through my rut/plateau. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Back to today...After I had my <a href="http://carlykirsch.juiceplus.com/content/JuicePlus/en/buy/complete/juice-plus--complete-variety.html#.VmHloI1dHIU" target="_blank">JP+ Complete shake</a> for breakfast and capsules, I put the kids on the bus and went for a 3 mile walk this morning with a good friend and our dogs. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For lunch I had my <a href="http://itsnotcalledtoddlerweight.blogspot.com/2014/02/recipe-veggie-bean-quinoa-soup-thm-e.html#.VmHkUI1dHIU" target="_blank">Quinoa Bean Veggie soup</a> and an apple also with the detox drink that is suggested in the D14 program. I'm pretty full right now!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Since it's chilly today, I'm sipping on some tea while typing this and for dinner I plan to have a large salad with grilled chicken on top.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
So, cheers to the weekend and plan to update you over the weekend. If not early next week!</div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Despite having a sinus/headache thing going on for the last week or so I am feeling pretty awesome this morning.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'm starting a detox/jumpstart program called The D14 which is a 14 day program that helps get the body detoxified, proper digestion going and a general "tune up" of how your body was designed to metabolize food and generally function. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvVGaHocbO7QG_XwXPiCdyazfKYGwy0142fipfULpALv_tFsErGjRUU25zkZ0b9sx9PMpF71iGxeTd1g2KZLtorpEN05DHpqIwxok49M_Ck9rgvC85pq17Z2W6kL_yAEyZ0dO8w8uUy98g/s640/blogger-image-1358219860.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvVGaHocbO7QG_XwXPiCdyazfKYGwy0142fipfULpALv_tFsErGjRUU25zkZ0b9sx9PMpF71iGxeTd1g2KZLtorpEN05DHpqIwxok49M_Ck9rgvC85pq17Z2W6kL_yAEyZ0dO8w8uUy98g/s400/blogger-image-1358219860.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Before you get skeptical of the word detox - stop! This program is designed not to be harsh or unpleasant and you eat FOOD. Yes, real nourishment for your body to flush the toxins out - which means a less bloated you! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Since it is a detox, you do need to refrain from eating a few things. But, before I lose you again it's <b><i>only</i></b> 14 days. the program was created by Courtney O'Donnell - she's a mother of five, a personal trainer and a director at the Juice Plus company. <span style="font-family: inherit;"><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">A</span><span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue Light', HelveticaNeue-Light, helvetica, arial, sans-serif;">ll the details are provided to you when you commit to the program</span></span><br />
<br />
I'm still following my Trim Healthy Mama principles alongside the D14 - I'm coming up on two years on that lifestyle, too!<br />
<br />
So, here I go...if you're interested in the program feel free to email me directly at <a href="mailto:carlykirsch@gmail.com">carlykirsch@gmail.com</a>.<br />

Eat less processed foods. Get enough sleep. Drinking more water. Stay away from sugar. More vegetables and greens (which I have a secret to easily get more of!). Do this...don't do that...<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The list goes on. And on...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, aside from the obvious things what else can you do to promote health and overall wellness? Today, I'm going to share with you two things I do every day for me and my family.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<strong>1. Essential Oils</strong></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
A few years ago I started using a few oils - lemon and lavender. I made a homemade lemon coconut oil body cream recipe. Then about two years ago I bought a diffuser (finally) with the intention of buying more oils but never did. It was just only recently (about two months ago) I decided to finally get more and dive into using them on a daily basis. After <em>lots</em> of research, I ordered quite a bit from Plant Therapy, one blend from DoTerra and some from a local health food store in town.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here's my <a href="http://www.planttherapy.com/" target="_blank">Plant Therapy</a> order<span style="font-family: "helvetica neue light" , , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">:</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDo51bPCB4xmYhv9nAUpS-eqwzjg2ob1XvH1l4j-8kUXh8e0xeih4qWUF5dDOOxuxHOf-mEZW1QorFwAaOaVe8Gwr-CCBXSf9WEo5csNqpEZ17zZ6TC3rOjXtCxt1NXnm-fTIJv7bq9ONc/s640/blogger-image--236814776.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDo51bPCB4xmYhv9nAUpS-eqwzjg2ob1XvH1l4j-8kUXh8e0xeih4qWUF5dDOOxuxHOf-mEZW1QorFwAaOaVe8Gwr-CCBXSf9WEo5csNqpEZ17zZ6TC3rOjXtCxt1NXnm-fTIJv7bq9ONc/s640/blogger-image--236814776.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
They have a line of kid safe oils and blends that I love so far. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I now have two diffusers - one is a Zaq brand I got from an online store and the other is the one pictured above. I use the diffuser every day - especially now that it's getting colder and germs are everywhere! I diffuse energizing blends and calming blends based on my day and the germ destroyer kids blend is usually going in the afternoons. I am really enjoying them and seeing some definite benefits from using them so far. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<strong>2.</strong> <b>Juice Plus+</b></div>
<div>
I only recently heard of<a href="http://www.carlykirsch.juiceplus.com/" target="_blank"> Juice Plus</a>. But from the moment it was mentioned to me I was hooked. It's <em>SO</em> simple and I'm actually shocked I hadn't heard of it before! I'm always reading and learning about health, wellness and nutrition and have never come across it. I actually learned about it initially from someone at my dentist's office because Juice Plus was studied and published in a medical journal (it's actually one of the only studied and researched of its kind!) that links the importance of nutrition to dental health - among other things. I'm very inspired by this company and their mission for health for many decades now. <br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmdTb_yGMIwVEQQilnVapNLjdwfPfzfutvoDsDthcAfFSKRQTZUWovC-dNPK0oIFigE6sW-3r8euQTK7G2CW74ER8oJ9VKGc4zy-Aeklp1pf1NFqCJWc-f9nIyVHhJBS8yPwRjszQ6T5Ti/s1600/JP_familyshot_v6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="226" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmdTb_yGMIwVEQQilnVapNLjdwfPfzfutvoDsDthcAfFSKRQTZUWovC-dNPK0oIFigE6sW-3r8euQTK7G2CW74ER8oJ9VKGc4zy-Aeklp1pf1NFqCJWc-f9nIyVHhJBS8yPwRjszQ6T5Ti/s320/JP_familyshot_v6.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Juice Plus Products - Complete, capsules, chews and bars</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
That's my little secret. For a few weeks now, I have been taking their "trio" Vineyard blend, Garden and Fruit Blend and I just ordered their Complete shake mix. It's gluten and dairy free and it is delicious! I use it to promote health personally and my kids are taking the gummy version which I actually get for basically free through their Children's Health Study. <br />
<br />
They are a great company and I'm actually <a href="http://www.carlykirsch.juiceplus.com/" target="_blank">joining them</a> on my own personal health mission to spread the goodness. If you want to learn more you can click on the Juice Plus links and it will take you to my web site to learn about the products as well as order. <br />
<br />
Ok...So what exactly is Juice Plus? It's FOOD. Not a supplement! </div>
<div>
<em>Juice Plus+ is whole food based nutrition, including juice powder concentrates from 30 different fruits, vegetables and grains. Juice Plus+ helps bridge the gap between what you should eat and what you do eat every day. Not a multivitamin, medicine, treatment or cure for any disease, Juice Plus+ is made from quality ingredients carefully monitored from farm to capsule to provide natural nutrients your body needs to be at its best.</em><br />
<em></em><br />
It actually has a nutrition label! No additives, non-GMO and just good nutrition to help keep us healthy every day in a truly simple way.<br />
<br />
I'll be sharing with you more about Juice Plus in the coming weeks...so stay tuned!<br />
<br />
Those are just two things I do to promote health other than the obvious advice we all hear over and over. <br />
<br />
What are some things you do to promote health?<br />
<br />
Feel free to email or comment with any questions...anytime!<br />

It's a rainy Wednesday here. I'm sipping my coffee and decided I needed to share a recipe I've been making for some time now.
